Wisconsin-based Gorman & Company, an affordable housing development leader in the Midwest for nearly 25 years, is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Swanton to lead its expansion in Arizona.
For the past seven years Swanton has served as the President and CEO of Community Services of Arizona, Inc., Arizona’s largest, non-profit developer affordable housing. At Community Services of Arizona, Inc. Swanton directed the preservation and construction of over 2,300 units of housing in 29 residential communities across Arizona. He also successfully repositioned an additional 1,702 units in the organization’s portfolio of affordable apartments.
Swanton’s hire is the latest step in a series of moves by Gorman & Company to bring its niche and its expertise in the development of innovative affordable housing solutions to the national playing field. In addition to its projects throughout the Midwest and in Arizona, Gorman & Company is currently developing mixed income housing communities in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.
“Arizona is one of the fastest-growing states in the country, and the need for high quality affordable housing in its communities are growing as well,” said Swanton. “Often times, the urban core of our cities and suburbs are leapfrogged during times of vast urban sprawl. Gorman & Company brings to Arizona the expertise to reinvest in our urban core through a combination of well-designed new housing opportunities, as well as expanding affordable housing through historic preservation and adaptive re-use opportunities.”
Swanton also spent eight years of his career in the public sector, having served as the Housing Development Manager for the City of Scottsdale, as well as other positions in housing and community development with the City of Glendale, AZ, the Arizona Department of Housing, and the City of Quincy, MA.
Swanton holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning, both from Arizona State University where he currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in housing finance and neighborhood revitalization. Brian is also certified as a Housing Development Finance Professional by the National Development Council.
“The addition of Brian Swanton to our team will not only bring a fresh perspective to the work we do, but it’ll allow us to work more efficiently and make more of an impact in this new market,” said Tom Capp, Chief Operating Officer of Gorman & Company. “We’re very excited to bring him on board.”
According to Swanton, “Gorman & Company is unlike any other organization I’ve encountered, both in its scope and its vision. I look forward to working locally to bring that vision to Arizona.”
