Affordable housing units to target artists, entrepreneurs, and the hearing-impaired
Milwaukee, April 21, 2008

After the successful completion of La Crosse’s Gund Brewery Lofts late last year, Gorman & Company is pleased to announce its involvement in one of the city’s next major redevelopment projects.

Plans for Grand River Station, formerly known as the La Crosse Transit Center, call for a mixed-use development along 3rd Street between Jay and King Streets in downtown La Crosse. The project will include a transit center, retail, rental housing, condominium housing and a parking deck. It’s a project that’s been more than 16 years in the making, and it was recently made possible through the securing of $7.5 million in affordable housing tax credits. Gorman & Company will oversee the housing component of the development.

“The Gund Brewery Lofts project was a truly cooperative effort, and we’re very excited to once again partner with the city of La Crosse to revitalize neighborhoods and increase innovative, affordable housing options,” says Chris Laurent, Wisconsin market President for Gorman & Company.

The rental housing at Grand River Station will be targeted toward artists and entrepreneurs and will include 72 units, the design of which will include live/work spaces and amenities such as a business center, artists’ workspace and an art gallery.

The project will also be designed to accommodate the deaf and hearing-impaired population; Gorman & Company will focus on filling fifty percent of the units with individuals with this sensory disability.

Grand River Station will be a mixed income community, with 59 of the 72 rental units targeted for residents earning 30%, 50% and 60% of the county median income for La Crosse County. The remaining 13 rental units will be available at market-rate, and the development will also include 15 for-sale condominiums.
