Work is underway for a new hotel in downtown Milwaukee. Ground was broken Monday for the Brewhouse Inn & Suites. It’ll re-use two existing historic buildings, previously part of the Pabst Brewery. The Brewhouse Inn & Suites will be a 132,000 square foot extended-stay hotel and pub-style restaurant. It will incorporate the original copper brew kettles and feature 90 guest rooms. Six suites will also feature themes from famous beer icons and local brands from the Milwaukee area. In a news release, Ted Matkom, Wisconsin Market President of Gorman and Company said, “The Brewhouse Inn & Suites is a dynamic project that will help with job creation, spur additional development activity and become another success story for The Brewery.” The $19 million redevelopment will include nearly $15 million in debt financing from Chinese investors through the federal government’s EB-5 program, which provides permanent green cards for foreigners that invest in projects in the United States that create jobs. The additional financing partner is Alliant Capital. Construction is expected to take 14 months to complete. The grand opening is scheduled for December 2012.
