Fairbanks Flats Noted
The National Trust for Historic Preservation recently honored Gorman and Company for it renovation and redevelopment of the Fairbanks Flats Rowhomes in Beloit.

The National Trust/Housing and Urban Development Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation was presented to Gorman and Company on Oct. 15 at the 2009 National Preservation Conference in Nashville, Tenn. The Fairbanks Flats project was one of 23 award winners recognized.

The Fairbanks Flats were constructed in 1917 as company housing for African-American workers migrating from the South to work at Fairbanks Morse Engine Company. In 2006, Gorman and Company began work restoring the complex and transforming them into housing for low and moderate income families and people with disabilities.

Along with Gorman and Company, co-recipients of the award were the Fairbanks Flats Revitalization Committee, the City of Beloit and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority.
